Sometimes they can. When you take away the hormones, their metabolism slows a little. When puppies stop growing and we stop feeding them like they’re growing, it can make their metabolism slow down. And that’s what happened to my dog. I was like, “Oh, my God, he’s not growing anymore.”
And then he started growing again, but he wasn’t growing as fast as he used to. I had to go back to the vet to get him spayed, because I didn’t think he was going to be able to grow anymore. But he did grow again.

Why do dogs get fat after surgery?
Dogs gain weight after being neutered because the surgical procedure causes changes in the dog’s body and behavior. In the case of a female dog, the weight gain can be as much as 20% of her body weight, and in some cases, up to 50%.
