Caniformia is a sub order within the order. Dogs, bears, raccoons, and mustelids are included. Pinnipedia (seals, walruses and sea lions) are also members of this group.

Why do dogs look like seals?
Canines share a lot of similar characteristics with seals, for example, mainly because both the fluffy dogs and baby seals are considered Caniformes (which literally means “dog-like”) and come from the same suborder of Carnivorans, which includes seals and sea lions. However, dogs are more closely related to wolves than they are to seals.
Dogs are the closest living relatives of wolves in the world, and they share more than 99 percent of their DNA with wolves, according to a study published last year in PLOS ONE. The study also found that dogs have more genes in common with dogs than wolves do with each other.
Why are seals so friendly?

Are seals smarter than dogs?
